Boko Haram: UN reacts to killing of Nigerian soldiers
UN Secretary-General, António Guterres has condemned the recent attacks in Nigeria by Boko Haram insurgent on security forces.
Guterres, in a statement released on Monday by his spokesperson, Stephane Dujarric. He extended his condolences to the Nigerian Government and to the families of the soldiers who lost their life.
“Those who violate international humanitarian, human rights and refugee law must be held accountable,” Guterres said.
He expressed that the attacks came as “national elections are due to be held in February next year”.
“The United Nations stands in solidarity with the Government of Nigeria in its fight against terrorism and violent extremism,” the UN secretary-general said.
